ibnchannel.id – Schneider Electric™, a global leader in digital transformation for energy management and automation, hosted Innovation Day 2025 in Bali, the concluding location in this year’s Innovation Day series. The forum, titled “Powering Bali’s Sustainable Future with Net-Zero Buildings,” provided a platform for cross-sector collaboration to accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions in the building and housing sectors that are efficient, low-emission, and aligned with Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets by 2060 and Bali’s Net Zero Emission by 2045.

Schneider Electric provided practical ideas for creating a safe and sustainable building and housing ecosystem through a series of discussions and demonstrations of modern technologies. As a global tourism destination, Bali is experiencing rapid property growth. In 2024, the real estate sector contributed 3.84%, or IDR 11.45 trillion, to Bali’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). Meanwhile, the hospitality sector, with 593 star-rated hotels and 8,152 restaurants, is the backbone of the regional economy. 2 The addition of 3,253 new rooms from 23 hotel projects by 20273 and the development of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) further strengthen this region’s position as a driver of economic growth and an opportunity for sustainable development.

However, this growth brings serious challenges, particularly high energy consumption. Five-star hotels in Bali record an average consumption of 183 kWh per room per day, higher than Jakarta (131 kWh per room per day) and Yogyakarta (85 kWh per room per day). 4 This data underscores the need for efficient and sustainable energy management to support the Bali Net Zero Emission target by 2045. This situation also encourages Bali to emerge as a leader in the adoption of sustainable buildings and housing in Indonesia.

As part of the national strategy, the Ministry of Public Works, through the Directorate General of Human Settlements, has established standards for Green Buildings (BGH) in PUPR Ministerial Regulation No. 21/2021 and Smart Buildings (BGC) in PUPR Ministerial Regulation No. 10/2023 to encourage low-carbon development. The implementation of this regulation, which is increasingly relevant to the growth of tourism and housing in Bali, opens up opportunities for wider replication to accelerate the creation of a sustainable building ecosystem at the regional and national levels.

Recognizing the vital role of the building sector in energy consumption and carbon emissions, Fajar Santoso Hutahaean S.T., M.S.E., Head of the Building Science Engineering Center, Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of Public Works, stated, “The building and housing sector plays a significant role in energy consumption and has the potential to reduce emissions. The implementation of Green Buildings and Smart Buildings is the foundation for ensuring efficient, safe, and sustainable development, including in tourism areas like Bali. We appreciate Schneider Electric’s initiative in presenting this collaborative forum and encourage all parties to strengthen synergy towards a sustainable building and housing ecosystem in Indonesia.”

Martin Setiawan, President Director of Schneider Electric Indonesia & Timor Leste, added, “The transformation towards sustainable buildings and homes can only be achieved if the government, industry, and communities work together. Innovation Day Bali is a demonstration of how digital solutions and cross-sector collaboration can accelerate the creation of efficient, safe, and low-carbon buildings and homes. Our commitment is to deliver technology that has a positive impact, empowering communities to maximize energy and resources, while bridging progress and sustainability. This spirit continues to drive Schneider Electric to remain present as a trusted partner in realizing efficiency both in Bali and Indonesia.”Technology Integration and Sustainability in Bali’s Hospitality Sector

The panel discussion, titled “Green Transformation in the Hospitality Sector: From Smart Operations to Sustainability,” discussed how Bali’s hospitality and healthcare sectors can become pioneers in the journey towards sustainable tourism.

The discussion also featured Azhar Pangarso Laksono, S.T., M.Eng.S.C., Junior Engineer – Building Science Engineering Center, Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of Public Works; Ir. Achmad Sutowo Sutopo, MT, MARS, ACPE, IPU, P.H.Eng., Chairman of the Indonesian Electrical Engineers Association (HAEI); and Alex Wiwoho, Director of Engineering at Raffles Jakarta. He highlighted the significant opportunities for technological innovation, smart operations, and the integration of sustainability standards to support the Bali Net Zero Emission target by 2045.

On this occasion, Ir. Achmad Sutowo Sutopo, MT, MARS, ACPE, IPU, P.H.Eng, Chairman of the Indonesian Electrical Engineers Association (HAEI), stated, “The transformation towards smart and green buildings does not solely depend on technological sophistication. Technology will only be effective if supported by the readiness of competent, adaptive, and visionary human resources. Therefore, HAEI continues to encourage capacity building for electrical engineers through training, certification, and scientific forums so they can address the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities presented by the energy transformation. With superior human resources supported by cross-sector collaboration, Indonesia can accelerate the implementation of smart electrical systems in the building sector and make it a crucial foundation towards Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060.”

Electrical Safety in the Residential Sector

At this event, Schneider Electric launched Vivace E, a series of modern-style switches and sockets with a frameless design, elegant color choices, security features with shutters, and easy installation for various building and residential interior styles. Schneider Electric also introduced EcoStruxure™ Building Operation 7.0, a building management platform with an integrated and flexible open architecture, equipped with stronger cybersecurity. This solution enables faster and more optimal implementation for more efficient and lower-emission operations. These two solutions underscore Schneider Electric’s commitment to providing modern and relevant technology for everyone to support sustainable buildings and homes.***
