ibnchannel.id – Jo Stevens, Australian Consul General in Bali, and Bali Governor Dr. Ir. Wayan Koster jointly unveiled the new nameplate for the Australian Consulate General in Balinese script.
The Australian Consulate General is the first diplomatic facility in Bali to officially display its name in Balinese script.
During his first tenure as Governor, Dr. Ir. Wayan Koster issued Bali Governor Regulation No. 80 of 2018, requiring the use of both Balinese and Latin character on government official nameplates.
While diplomatic buildings are normally exempt from this rule, the Australian Consulate General complied as a show of respect and appreciation for Balinese culture.
Consul General Jo Stevens stated that Bali is a particular place for Australians who appreciate coming due to its rich tradition and culture.
“By adding Balinese script to our building sign, we demonstrate Australia’s deep and enduring respect for the people and culture of Bali,” stated Jo Stevens on Monday, November 10, 2025.
She stated that this is a physical and symbolic sign of support for Governor Koster’s efforts to promote and preserve Balinese culture.
“I’m delighted that Governor Koster is here today to launch our sign. “Australia will always be a close friend and partner to Bali,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Bali Governor Wayan Koster thanked the Consul General for his support of the Balinese government’s efforts to preserve and advance Balinese culture.
“I hope other foreign offices can follow the example of the Australian Consulate General,” Koster told reporters.
The Mayor of Denpasar, the Head of the Bali Tourism Office, and the Bali Culture Office all attended the inauguration. **
