ibnchannel.id – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport – Bali recorded a positive performance throughout the first semester of 2025, serving a total of 11,424,245 passenger movements and 68,891 aircraft movements. These figures represent a 1 percent increase compared to the first semester of 2024, which recorded 11,259,019 passenger movements and 68,202 aircraft movements.

Of the total figures for the first half of the year, international flights accounted for 7,239,415 passenger movements and 38,123 aircraft movements, while domestic flights contributed 4,184,830 passenger movements and 30,768 aircraft movements.

The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, stated that this achievement is the result of collaboration among all parties in delivering safe, comfortable, and efficient services. “The increase in passenger traffic is a positive indicator that Bali’s tourism continues to show sustainable growth,” he said.

Domestic Route Perspective

From the domestic route perspective, Jakarta remains the most popular route, with 1,990,732 passengers, accounting for 47 percent of the total domestic traffic in the first semester. It is followed by Surabaya with 644,626 passengers, and Labuan Bajo with 247,863 passengers.

For international routes, Singapore ranks first with 1,341,294 passengers, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 841,610 passengers, and Melbourne with 547,923 passengers during the first half of 2025.

Based on international arrival data, foreign nationals from Australia still dominate with a total of 777,913 people, followed by India with 307,638 people, and China with 275,394 people. According to Syaugi, these figures highlight Bali’s consistency as a spearhead for increasing international tourist arrivals and serve as a potential market for developing Indonesia’s tourism industry.

“Besides maintaining key markets such as Australia, we also observe positive trends in arrivals from India and China. This represents opportunities we will continue to support through service improvement and airline partnerships,” Syaugi explained.

9 Flight Activations

During the first half of 2025, nine flight activations occurred at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. One of them was a new domestic route to Palangkaraya served by Lion Air, while the other eight were increased frequencies on existing routes, including Manado, Guangzhou, Singapore, Bangkok (DMK), Darwin, Saigon, Adelaide, and Perth.

Among these flight additions, Saudia Airlines made a noteworthy debut in April, launching its route to and from Bali via Singapore for the first time. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines resumed operations in Bali post-COVID-19, serving a direct Saigon–Denpasar route. With these nine additions, from January to June 2025, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport served 62 routes, both domestic and international, operated by 51 airlines.

“In line with traffic growth, we continue to innovate our services to support operations and enhance passenger experience,” said Syaugi.

“This includes optimizing infrastructure and passenger flow at the airport, improving operational efficiency through the implementation of Management of Traffic (MoT), and leveraging technology to accelerate passenger processes such as self-check-in counters and autogates at immigration. All of this aims to provide a seamless and efficient travel experience for all airport users.”

Several Achievements

Efforts to improve performance throughout 2025 have been demonstrated by several achievements made by I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. “We secured 6th place in the Best Regional Airports in Asia category during our first participation in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2025, and received the Best Airport 15–25 Million Passengers in Asia Pacifictitle from the Airports Council International (ACI). In addition to these two international accolades, we also received the Prima Utama Award during the 2024 Excellent Service Assessment for Public Transportation Units by Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation,” said Syaugi.

“We extend our gratitude for the trust given by all service users and stakeholders at the airport for the strong cooperation and synergy that enabled us to achieve these positive results in the first semester of 2025. We remain committed to making this airport a proud gateway that supports Bali’s economic growth through the tourism sector,” he concluded.***
