ibnchannel.id – The Deputy Governor of Bali, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, called for disaster-related information to be delivered to the public quickly and effectively. He made this statement while attending the inauguration of the InaTEWS Bali Operational System Building at the BMKG Regional III Office in Denpasar on Saturday (June 14).
The InaTEWS Bali Operational System Building is part of the national project Indonesia Disaster Resilience Initiative Project (IDRIP), run by BMKG with support from the World Bank. This building serves as a backup command center for handling earthquakes, tsunamis, and hydrometeorological disasters, following the InaTEWS Operational System Building in Jakarta.
Giri Prasta expressed his appreciation for the establishment of this disaster information center. He hopes that the presence of the InaTEWS Bali Operational System Building will enable disaster information to be disseminated to the public quickly and effectively.
“Hopefully, this can provide a sense of safety and comfort to the people of Bali,” he stated.
Preparedness & Mitigation
Giri Prasta also urged that preparedness and mitigation of natural disasters be continuously improved. According to him, education on disaster preparedness must begin early, even from school age. This way, the public will know what actions to take when a disaster occurs.
In addition, he instructed the Head of the Bali Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and all district/city BPBD heads to always coordinate with BMKG regarding early disaster warnings. He emphasized the importance of a system that allows disaster information to be received directly on people’s mobile devices (smartphones).
Meanwhile, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, stated that the construction of the building is crucial to minimizing the impact of disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis that may occur.
“BNPB will operate downstream. After this building has been officially established, the construction of command centers at the provincial and district/city levels will follow,” he said.
On the other hand, the Head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati, said that the main goal of BMKG is to ensure that disaster information can be received as early as possible by the public, including farmers and fishermen. According to her, such information helps reduce the risk of loss due to disasters and improves productivity and well-being.***
