ibnchannel.id – A crew member (ABK) of the vessel Bina Hasil 16 was reported drowned while swimming in the Fishermen’s Harbor Pool, West Dock of Benoa Port, on Sunday (June 8, 2025). Fajar Hermawan (30), whose address is listed on his ID card, is a native of Manado. Around 1:00 PM local time, the victim was swimming with his friends when he suddenly drowned and did not resurface.
The incident was only reported to the Denpasar Search and Rescue (SAR) Office duty officer at 4:00 PM local time by the Benoa Port Police (KP3). A team of six personnel from the Denpasar SAR Office and two crew members of the KN SAR Arjuna 229 vessel were dispatched to Benoa Port, led directly by Head of Operations and Readiness Section, I Wayan Juni Antara.
After 30 minutes, the team arrived at the location and coordinated with related SAR units. After assigning tasks, they moved to the last known position of the victim using a fishing boat. Two divers from the Denpasar SAR Office were deployed to dive to a depth of approximately 6 meters. During the first dive sortie, the victim was immediately located at 5:43 PM on the seabed, then brought to the surface and lifted onto the boat.
“The joint SAR team successfully located the victim approximately 60 meters from the edge of the dock,” explained Juni Antara. He revealed that the dive team encountered challenges due to limited visibility, as the bottom of the drowning site was muddy.
Upon reaching land, Fajar Hermawan’s body was transported to Prof. Ngoerah Regional General Hospital (RSUD Prof. Ngoerah) using an ambulance from the Denpasar City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). SAR units involved in the operation included the Denpasar SAR Office and KN SAR Arjuna 229 crew, Bali Police Water Police Directorate (Dit Polair Polda Bali), Benoa Port Police Sector, Benoa Water Police, and local fishermen.***
