ibnchannel.id – The Deputy Governor of Bali, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, officially opened the 2025 Bali Province Student Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Pelajar or PORJAR). The opening ceremony took place at Bajra Sandhi Field, Renon, Denpasar, on Saturday (May 31), in a festive atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, peace, and camaraderie.
This annual event is an important moment to evaluate and develop student sports development in Bali. Thousands of participants from nine regencies/cities are taking part in the six-day event, running from May 31 to June 5, 2025.
In his speech, Deputy Governor Giri Prasta expressed appreciation and gratitude to all sports coaches—from school level to the provincial level—for their dedication in nurturing Bali’s young generation. He emphasized the importance of sports development that is carried out “gradually, progressively, and sustainably” in order to produce skilled and high-achieving athletes at both the national and international levels.
Furthermore, Giri Prasta stated that structured development from an early age can produce high-quality professional athletes. “This can only be achieved through solid planning, continuous evaluation, hard work, a drive for achievement, and the commitment of all stakeholders to achieve shared goals,” he said.
He also stressed that PORJAR is not just a competitive arena. “It is also a platform to build character and reinforce the values of sportsmanship, honesty, and a sense of responsibility,” he emphasized. He remains optimistic that this event will give birth to future athletes who will make Bali proud on national and international stages.
PORJAR 2025 carries the theme: “Through Student Sports Week with the Spirit of Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali, Let’s Create Student Athletes with Character and Achievement to Realize Golden Indonesia.” Giri Prasta invited all sports elements to strengthen the role of sports in shaping a healthy, intelligent, and strong-charactered younger generation.
The Deputy Governor also reminded the audience that sports are now an essential part of regional development. “Sports can no longer be handled casually,” he said, referencing Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sports, which affirms the authority and responsibility of regional governments in developing systems for sports development and management. “Professional, transparent, and synergistic collaboration among all parties is key to achieving successful sports development in Bali,” he added.
The Chairperson of PORJAR 2025, Putu Bayu Putra Mahendra, in his report stated that this event serves as a means to evaluate and enhance student sports achievements in Bali. “PORJAR 2025 aims to provide a healthy competitive space and encourage students to strive to show their best capabilities as part of long-term sports development,” he explained.
A total of 8,299 participants are taking part in this year’s PORJAR, consisting of 7,187 student athletes, 713 coaches, and 449 officials. They will compete in 34 official sports branches and seven exhibition sports. Competitions are held at 43 venues across four regions: seven in Badung Regency, three in Tabanan Regency, one in Gianyar Regency, and 32 in Denpasar City.
Putu Bayu expressed appreciation to all parties who have supported the organization of the event. He hopes that PORJAR 2025 will run smoothly and successfully. “This event is a crucial moment to strengthen a more professional, targeted, and sustainable student sports development system,” he concluded.***
