ibnchannel.id – The Banten Police have formed a special team to investigate the alleged request for a project worth IDR 5 trillion by a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Cilegon to foreign investors.
Banten Police Chief, Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto, emphasized that the investigation would be thorough, and legal action would be taken if criminal elements were found.
“With the viral video that circulated yesterday, we from the Banten Police will deploy a team and conduct an investigation,” said Inspector General Suyudi after a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Investment and Refining, Jakarta, on Wednesday (14/5/2025).
Inspector General Suyudi stressed that the National Police, specifically the Banten Police, are part of the Investment Acceleration Task Force and have the responsibility to maintain a healthy and conducive investment climate.
“If there is any suspicion of criminal acts, especially those disrupting the acceleration of investment in this country, we will conduct an investigation and prosecution, as well as take legal action,” he emphasized.
The suspicion of extortion over this project arose after a viral video on platform X showed several people, allegedly from Kadin Cilegon and a local mass organization, meeting with representatives from Chengda Engineering Co., the contractor for the CA-EDC factory construction project. In the video, a man in a white shirt is heard asking for a share of the project up to IDR 5 trillion.
“No auction, the portion must be clear. IDR 5 trillion for Kadin, IDR 3 trillion for Kadin,” said the man in the video clip that was quoted on Tuesday (13/5).
In response to this, the Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, stated that they would impose strict sanctions on any individuals proven to violate organizational ethics.
“We will issue a written warning and a strong reprimand. If necessary, a temporary suspension of the organization’s authority will be implemented until the ethical process is completed,” said Anindya in his statement on Tuesday (13/5).
He also mentioned that Kadin is drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding regional Kadin participation in investment projects, including a code of ethics for interactions with investors and contractors.
An internal audit will be conducted on Kadin Cilegon and Kadin Banten Province, and the results will be submitted to the Ministry of Investment/BKPM and the Banten Provincial Government.***
